I choose this topic because whenever we are in Salt Lake City I see lots of people on the streets begging I hate seeing that and feeling like there is nothing I can do. I always what to help them so I figured this was the perfect opportunity to do something about it. So I thought we would put together kits that will help them. My favorite thing we put in is socks because I hate being cold and I know no one else likes it so I hope that it will help them and make them feel as close to home as possible. I learned that a common misconception is that homeless people are usually homeless because they are drug addicts or an alcoholic but that is not true. For most people it’s job loss or a financial crisis and it’s a kind of brief period of homelessness. I also thought that most homeless people are adult men and women but the people in this homeless shelter were actually all families I never realized how many children are homeless and that made me really sad because their are kids my age that are homeless and I think how hard that would be for me and it makes me so sad and it makes me want to help them so much. At first we wanted to make blankets for kids in children’s hospitals but most children’s hospitals but most hospitals don’t allow people to come and give them to the kids they also don’t accept homemade things. We want to make bread for people but we didn’t have time so we decided to ask for donations and give them a loaf of bread as a gift; and instead we decided to make kits for homeless people because we thought it would be so helpful to them. It relates to the theme of make a difference because we are helping these homeless people and making a difference in their lives so that they can get back on their feet. I also feel like it will make them feel like someone cares about them and knowing someone cares about you is something that makes me happy and hope it will help put joy into their lives as well.
