We decided to help by making kits for the homeless and dropping them off at the shelter in Midvale. We started off with already $20.00 (thanks to our investors) and then we got donations from other people as well. We went to the store and bought items that we thought would be useful to the homeless people like toiletries, snacks, socks, gloves, etc. "Some things that residents are frequently in need of is feminine toiletries, shampoo & conditioner, socks...". When we went and dropped off the kits, we were able to take a tour of the building and that was interesting. They have a kitchen were the people staying there can make their own meals out of the food that is donated. "Sometimes we have volunteers that come and serve dinner, and the residents always look forward for that" - The Road Home. They have fun activities planned for the children staying their and they are able to still go to school. "The districts that the kids go to school at are in charge of their transportation to school, so every morning and afternoon a school bus comes and picks them up/drops them off" - The Road Home. The whole upstairs is one big room lined with bunk beds were the homeless people sleep. "They almost always have to share beds with one another because it is always so full" - The Road Home. This project was a very interesting and neat experience.
We had a great time making the kits!
